JSX Eyes New Service Between Dallas and Orange County

Next month, United States-based carrier JSX will launch a route between Dallas, Texas, and Orange County, California, to add to its network. Currently, JSX serves both destinations from other US cities; the pair will now receive a daily route using private terminals at each airport. JSX will begin service on September 29 from its Dallas Love Field (DAL) base to John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California.

The hub carrier at Dallas Love, Southwest Airlines, operates the route with its larger narrowbody: the Boeing 737. Nonetheless, JSX presents an unconventional model to travelers in comparison to other U.S. airlines. One of the carrier's most prominent selling points is that passengers arrive and depart from private terminal facilities, allowing for a more secluded and efficient experience. JSX touts its private lounge in the terminal and a quick security screening to allow for passengers to complete the check-in and security process in 20 minutes.

Additionally, this service, which will be operated by Embraer ERJ aircraft, features a 1-1 seating configuration with over 36 inches of pitch and 19 inches of width. At first glance, JSX flights seem more fitted for business travelers, with a two-bag checked luggage allowance, onboard cocktail service, spacious legroom, and free wifi. However, the carrier appeals to leisure travelers by accommodating skis, golf bags, and snowboards as checked luggage.

Out of Dallas Love Field, JSX delivers its unique experience via intra-Texas routes to business hubs like Houston and Austin, routes to the Western U.S. like Denver and Las Vegas, and routes to Florida like Destin and Miami. Meanwhile, Orange County concentrates primarily on several intra-Western U.S. hops to Nevada, Colorado, and within California. This newest route out of Orange County represents a paradigm shift as JSX ventures to longer flying for the Los Angeles area.

Fares for this new route between Dallas Love Field and Orange Country start at a hefty $499 per passenger price point.  In contrast, at the time of writing, Southwest charges $195 for a non-stop flight between Dallas and Orange County. While JSX is a more exclusive experience, Southwest offers a generous checked bag allowance and a slightly faster 15-minute flight. It will be interesting to see the size in which JSX can mark its authority on the Dallas - Orange County route.
